Der Verband der Osteuropahistorikerinnen und -historiker (VOH) ist der Zusammenschluß von Historikerinnen und Historikern aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz, die sich mit der Geschichte Osteuropas sowie Ostmittel- und Südosteuropas befassen.

Der Verband der Hochschullehrer und Hochschullehrerinnen für Slavistik an den Hochschulen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (VHS) hat sich u.a. zum Ziel gesetzt, die Slavistik in Forschung und Lehre zu fördern und ihre Ergebnisse zu verbreiten.

Die Initiative OsteuropaStudierender Deutschland (IOS) engagiert sich u.a. für den Erhalt und die Qualität der Hochschulausbildung osteuropabezogener Studienrichtungen.

Der International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) ist die Dachorganisation wissenschaftlicher Gesellschaften, die sich mit der Erforschung und Analyse mittelost- und osteuropäischer Staaten befassen. Momentan sind in ICCEES Organisationen aus 21 Ländern von vier Kontinenten vertreten:

ICCEES veranstaltet alle fünf Jahre einen Weltkongress, der das bedeutendste wissenschaftliche Ereignis auf dem Gebiet der Ostmittel- und Osteuropaforschung darstellt.

Für das Jahr 2005 beauftragte ICCEES die DGO mit der Durchführung des Weltkongresses. "Europa - ein gemeinsames Haus" lautete das Thema des Kongresses, der vom 25. bis 30. Juli 2005 in Berlin stattfand.
